Easing off the slipway
Into the rising tide
Trailers pulled to safety
As out the white boats ride
Oars at first held upright
Then dipped into the sea
Rowers making ready
Then linked in harmony
The pier here as the background
This Sunday in July
Exercise together
Beneath a summer sky.
