Golden Carpet
A golden carpet on the towpath
Covered here by Autumn's grace
Fallen leaves a vibrant tribute
To beautify this quiet space
The waterway is silent
The narrowboats safe moored
The skippers hunkering down below
With winter fuel now stored
The summer throng a memory
Canal its peace regains
From locks to curving bridges
Its magic still remains.
